Helping
Families Manage Their Resources
Why is this an issue?
The average wage for Lafayette
County is $21,611, which is $1427 below the regional average.
The general attitude is that both parents must work to
provide for their family. 81.1% of Lafayette County's
children under age 6 live with all parents in the labor force.
9% of the total population is in poverty, however the child
poverty rate is 13.32%. The elderly poverty rate is 9.39%.
The challenge isn't only
financial. Time or the apparent lack of time is a huge
issue. Seven small school districts enable older students
to be involved in many extra-curricular activities. Parents
complain that even their younger children are over-scheduled.
Parents are juggling work, family, school and community
activities and feel they can't keep us with all of it.
