December 4 — 2009 Soil, Water & Nutrient Management Meeting, Marshfield
The Marshfield Ag Research Station will be one of a eight locations throughout Wisconsin hosting the annual Soil, Water and Nutrient Management Meetings. Experts from the WI Dept of Agriculture, University of Wisconsin-Extension will address a variety of topics related to non-point source pollution, fertility levels, soils mapping, and more. community leaders to this program which will cover: national and global influences on the dairy
markets, strategies for negotiating through difficult situations, stress management, dairy finances, communicating your position to your lender the
importance of financial reports, legal options and tax strategies to consider during difficult financial

December 10 — Crop Production 101,
Abbotsford
Clark County UW-Extension is offering “Crop Production 101: Just the Basics”
this one day session at two different
locations to teach you the “basics.”
What a farm manager needs to know to
make a better informed decision for
crop inputs.
Bulletins and information will be
provided to help the decision making
process. This will be interactive not a
lecture. Everyone will have a chance to
experience creating facts for their
operations during this two hour
workshop. The program cost $5/person, will be held at the Abbotsford City Hall from

December 11 — Dairy Robotic Technology Seminar (see Ag Link article)

December 15 — ACRE Informational Meeting, Halder
Agricultural producers with an interest in the USDA's new Average Crop Revenue Election ( ACRE) program will want to attend this local meeting from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Halder (basement of St. Patrick's Catholic Church). There will be presentations by Farm Service Agency and UW-Extension staff on an overview of the program, payment triggers, and economic implications of ACRE verses Counter-Cyclical Payments (CCPs). No pre-registration is necessary.

JANUARY 2010
January 6 — 2010 Wisconsin Agronomy Update Meeting, Wausau
The Department of Agronomy will offer Crop Production and Management Meetings at eight locations, including Wausau during January of 2010. Joe Lauer, Dan Undersander and Shawn Conley will present the latest information on hybrid/variety performance, an analysis and discussion of last year's growing season, and updated recommendations for field crop production. The Wausau meeting will be Wednesday, January 6 at noon at the Best Western/Midway Motor Lodge,

January 11 — Nutrient Management Planning Classes
Begin
The idea of soil and crop fertility management is not new. What is new is Nutrient
Management, the name given to fertilizer programs, and the development of qualified Nutrient Management Plans. The qualified Nutrient Management Plan is the best management practice that serves as a tool to help make sound management decisions. These decisions can lead to maximized production and profit. Upon completion of the class, producers will have a qualified plan that meets state requirements, as well as available cost-share opportunities.
January 12 — Holstein Breeders Annual Business Meeting
The Marathon County Holstein Breeders Association will have their Annual Business Meeting at Rib River Ballroom, Marathon City beginning at 12:00 noon.
January 20 — Wisconsin Agricultural Economic Outlook Forum 2010
The purpose of the forum is to provide public, private and educational leaders along with policy makers and media an outlook on the economics, emerging issues and opportunities of Wisconsin agriculture. The location of the event is Pyle Center, Room 313, in Madison from 12:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. The forum will be webcast live on the Wisconsin Agricultural Economic Outlook Forum website. A high-speed internet connection will be required.
FEBRUARY
February 18-20 — 2010 Wisconsin Grazing Conference
Hundreds of people from around the Midwest will gather in Wisconsin Rapids to learn how managed grazing results in both healthier profits and a healthier planet. The 18th annual Wisconsin Grazing Conference, organized by GrassWorks, Inc., is a key event for grass-based farmers or “graziers” who will find information on a variety of animal species, plant species, and management situations. Topics range from “mob grazing” to pastured poultry to the health benefits of grass-fed meat, eggs and dairy products.
This year’s conference will be held at the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids and will feature over 25 sessions and 30 exhibitors.
Keynote speakers include
Jim VanDerPol, from Pastures A Plenty,
Andrew Hager, Certified Educator in Holistic Management, and
Woody Tasch, founder of the Slow Money Alliance.
Conference registration includes workshops, general sessions, admission to the exhibit hall and evening entertainment, as well as dinners, lunches and snacks. Online registration is available.

March 5 — Wisconsin Dairy & Beef Industry Animal Husbandry Conference
