Good Fences Make Good Neighbors
Chapter 90 of the Wisconsin Statutes sets out rules regarding fences in agricultural areas. The law prescribes when a fence is required, how responsibility for a fence is divided, what a legal fence is and how to resolve disputes between property owners. As growth occurs in rural areas, residential and agricultural uses may come into conflict. Knowing and applying the fence law can help reduce conflicts. Local Government Financial Management Series
Finances and budgeting are some of the most challenging aspects of local government. The complexities of the rules and laws governing public finance, the ever-increasing demands for services, and the limited revenue sources available to Wisconsin local governments make knowledge of the "tools" of government financial management essential for good decision-making. The UW-Extension's Local Government Center website provides a series of financial management presentations and supporting documents intended to familiarize the local government official with the various components of good local government financial management. Transportation Information Center
Every year Wisconsin municipalities spend one billion dollars to repair and replace roads and bridges. There are nearly 100,000 miles of local roads in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Transportation Information Center (TIC) helps local officials manage their road systems and transportation budgets. The TIC offers training, publishes a newsletter and technical bulletins, supports a pavement management system for local roads, and gives advice. Marathon County Environmental Resources Committee
Many Marathon County municipalities have adopted comprehensive plans which meet the requirements of the recent state planning legislation. The Marathon County Board adopted the County Comprehensive Plan on May 23, 2006. Plan implementation at the county level is led by the county’s Environmental Resources Committee, which

Towns and Villages Association Meetings
In Marathon County, local government officials have the opportunity to be part of either the Eastern Marathon County Towns and Villages Association or the Western Marathon County Towns and Villages Association. Association meetings are held quarterly. A joint meeting of both associations is held in July of each year. The 2009 Towns and Villages Association meetings start at 7:30 p.m. and are scheduled:
