Conference Explores Renewable Energy Options for Chippewa Valley Region — May 12
What's Possible in the Chippewa Valley? will be the theme for sessions led by speakers from the UW-Extension and other state and national experts in the field of renewable energy. The conference will look at renewable energy from the standpoints of both economic development and energy production. For example, sessions will include ways to increase jobs in the clean energy economy, as well as a discussion of collaborative anaerobic digesters. Resources for Innovation and Growth Conference — May 21
The University of Wisconsin-Stout in
Menomonie, WI
is the site for the Manufacturing Advantage Conference on May 21, 2008. The conference features hands-on demonstrations, simulations, and workshops to get participants actively involved with the resources available to improve and grow business. Doug Hall, best known as one of the judges of the TV show "American Inventor", and host of "Brain Brew", a radio program syndicated by Public Radio International, will keynote. rise. Marathon
County is offering you
an opportunity to bring
in unused
pharmaceuticals for
proper disposal. The goal is to
protect you and the
environment by offering
safe disposal options. Bring
medications in their
original containers.
You may black out
personal information.
Law enforcement will
be on site for safety. One day only, Saturday, June 7, 2008,
10 am - 2 pm. TWO LOCATIONS: The Hazardous

EPA Offers Free Training on Managing Energy Use
Beginning Wednesday, March 19 and over the coming weeks, the EPA, through its Energy Star program, is offering free Internet-based training sessions for local governments. These sessions will cover several ways a community can harness Energy Star to better manage municipal energy use and reduce emissions, including improving government facilities, measuring and tracking facility energy use and launching an Energy Star Challenge. Learn About Your Land — Classes for Woodland Owners
A series of educational classes designed to help you better understand and manage your woodlands, February through May 2008. The classes are sponsored by UW-Extension and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), and taught by experts in woodland ecology, forest health and management, timber harvesting, and related topics. Whether you are a long-time woodland landowner or someone completely new to the experience, the classes will have much to offer. Registration is $20 for the entire series or $5 per session. Transportation Information Center
Every year Wisconsin municipalities spend one billion dollars to repair and replace roads and bridges. There are nearly 100,000 miles of local roads in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Transportation Information Center (TIC) helps local officials manage their road systems and transportation budgets. The TIC offers training, publishes a newsletter and technical bulletins, supports a pavement management system for local roads, and gives advice. CNRED IN MARATHON COUNTY
A Community Natural Resources, Economic Development (CNRED) educator designs and delivers educational programs and technical assistance to help communities deal with their own unique challenges. Backed by University of Wisconsin research, CNRED educators work with local government, civic organizations, businesses and community leaders to enhance local decision-making and help communities respond to new challenges and opportunities. They work to:
- Establish ongoing programs that educate the public and elected officials about current issues
- Strengthen local government
- Develop local leadership capacity
- Protect natural resources for future generations
