FREE Financial Counseling — September 8 & November 10
Are you struggling with having enough money to pay your bills? Are you puzzled with your finances? Have you recently lost your job and are struggling to make ends meet? If you said yes to any of the above questions then, this program is designed for you. You are not alone. The Marathon County UW-Extension is offering a Financial Counseling Program. This includes a group format where we will discuss the basics of why we need to budget, and then you will be partnered one-on-one with a trained volunteer who will go over your individual situation with you and help you start to build a money management plan. Home Buyer Workshop — October 6 & 13
If you are a first-time home buyer you’ll want to attend this free two part
workshop to learn all about buying a home. From finding the right home to making an offer to
qualifying for financing, you’ll come away with a good understanding of the entire home buying
process. You’ll also receive a free credit report and one-on-one credit review session to help you
understand your current credit standing. October 6 and 13, 2008 at UW-Extension, 212 River Drive, Wausau.

Money Smart Week — October 11-18
Coordinated with the State of Wisconsin’s Money Smart Week October 11th
through the 18th, 2008 these sessions provide a variety of helpful information to better manage your
money. Whether its car care or home repair hints, budgeting, living on minimum wage, insurance tips
or more, you won’t want to miss these free sessions. Sessions are held at various locations throughout
the greater Wausau area and a schedule is available online at www.moneysmartwi.org. |
LAPSED PROGRAMS
Money Smart
A program of 10 instructor-led
training modules covered basic financial topics. The topics include:
Bank on It - an introduction to bank services; Borrowing Basics
an introduction to credit; Check It Out - how to choose and keep
a checking account; Money Matters - how to keep track of your
money; Pay Yourself First - why you should save, save, save; Keep
It Safe - your rights as a consumer; To Your Credit - how your
credit history will affect your credit future; Charge It Right
how to make a credit card work for you; Loan to Own - know what
you're borrowing before you buy; and Your Own Home - what home
ownership is all about.
Get Checking
Designed for people
who wish to open a checking or savings account. The program is
designed for people who currently do not have an account with
a financial institution, never had an account and don't know how
to start, or had problems with an account in the past that is
making it difficult to open an account now. Participants will
learn how to choose an account, how to balance a checking account,
how to establish credit, and how your account relationship can
help establish credit.
