Klug garden, Garden Walk 2008GARDEN WALK 2008 - KLUG

Litzer | Ray | Waring | Klug | Greene | Community Garden

Michelle & Dave Klug - 2605 Fern Lane, Wausau, WI

When the Klug family moved to Rib Mountain six years ago, a large rock pile separated their yard from their neighbor’s lot. It was Michelle’s idea to turn this unattractive area into a shared garden. Now filled with flowers, it is an area to enjoy and provides an easy access for two families to visit back and forth.

The Klug’s yard is very family oriented with features for all members of the family to enjoy. At the entrance to the connecting garden Michelle has designed an inviting area where she can sit and visit while the children are playing. It is surrounded with grasses, sedum, coreoposis, monarda, and daisies. The backyard is a wooded, shady area with a fire pit and benches. A two story playhouse next to a hosta garden is a favorite place for the children to bring their friends to play. Next to the playhouse is a waterfall surrounded by wildflowers.

Many of Michelle’s perennials were given to her by her grandmother. Michelle has planted the rudbeckia, day lilies, heliopsis, and filipendula in the gardens that surround the house. She is very enthused about gardening and willing to share her knowledge with others. Her yard and Lisa’s illustrate what can be accomplished where two lots meet and neighbors work and plan together.

Directions: Go southeast on Park Road 0.1 mile to Violet. Turn right onto Violet and go 0.1 mile. Turn right onto Fern Lane. Go 0.3 miles to the home which is on the left.
