GARDEN WALK 2008 - LITZER
Litzer | Ray | Waring | Klug | Greene | Community Garden
Keith & Renee Litzer - 6704 N Mountain Rd Wausau, WI
The Litzers live in Renee’s childhood home just north of Rib Mountain. Keith, a master gardener, describes himself as a “Jack of all trades”. During the past nine years he has planned and developed a variety of rock edged gardens throughout his 1.75 acre property.
The garden area along the road provides a colorful view of both annuals and perennials to those who drive by. When Keith and Renee look out toward the road, these bermed gardens allow them to enjoy their flowers which block the view of the busy highway. Keith has planted drought tolerant perennials including artemisia, gaillardia, sedum, rudbeckia and ornamental grasses accented with annuals.
Many of the gardens surrounding the home have innovative additions as Keith enjoys experimenting with new and unusual plants and décor. In one bed he matched rust colored rocks with coral bells of the same color. He designed and welded his own metal cages to stake tall plants and does leaf casting for garden accents. Many unusual plants grow among his original art works, including Tiger Eye sumac, Voo Doo lily, and smoke bush.
In the backyard an artistically designed stone walk leads down the hill to a fire pit, a large game playing area for the family, and a practice golf tee. This is truly a man’s garden!
