GARDEN WALK 2008 - RAY
Litzer | Ray | Waring | Klug | Greene | Community Garden
Carol & Jerry Ray -
3206 Kildeer Lane,
Wausau, WI
A clump of White Birch and colorful flower beds welcome you to this mature garden. Carol, a master gardener, has put a lot of energy into creating gardens with plants blooming from spring through fall. From the front of the house to the back, the gardens are well designed and flow beautifully.
Carol began gardening with perennials about ten years ago when the deer in the area began eating the vegetables in her garden. She removed hosta and replaced it with deer resistant perennials.
Gardening is a joint effort with Jerry doing most of the hardscaping, installing brick around all the flower beds. Carol plans and plants continuing a love for gardening that runs in her family. Silver lamium was brought from her mother’s garden in Michigan and can be seen along the border of many beds.
Carol has amended the sandy soil that occurs in this area of Rib Mountain with organic compost to create a rich loam. Results are seen in the size and health of the plants. The back yard includes many perennial beds and a large deck surrounded by maples and shrubs. Many summer evenings, Jerry can be found reading on the deck while Carol works among the flowers.
