Education Strengthens
Milwaukee's Families
| UW-Extension Family Living programs strengthen
Milwaukee's families by helping them learn more about raising
children, managing their money, purchasing and maintaining
a home, and eating nutritious meals.
We also train the staff of financial institutions and family
and youth serving agencies on topics such as poverty, home
visiting, home ownership counseling and child development.
By training the staff of private businesses and public agencies,
we reach many more Milwaukee families.

Program Highlights
|
Foreclosure Prevention
Many homeowners in Milwaukee and across the state are losing their homes largely because they cannot make the escalating payments on adjustable rate mortgages. The Foreclosure Prevention Education Program raises community awareness of predatory lending by working with professional and consumer groups to provide consumers with resources to prevent foreclosures and make informed lending choices. For more information, visit our Foreclosure Prevention web page.

Parenting and Child
Development
Raising children is the hardest
job in the world. We need consistent practice in parenting
skills until we become comfortable and confident putting them
to use. For more information on raising children, visit our
Parenting and Child
Development web pages. For information about training
for staff of family and youth-serving agencies, contact the
Milwaukee County Family Living Educator, Cynthia Muhar at

Professional
Training for Home Visitors
Home Visitation programs
promote parent and child interaction, healthy child development,
and positive parenting skills and decrease child abuse and
neglect among low income families. UW-Extension trains professionals
who visit families in their homes during pregnancy, at birth
and through the first year or more of the child's life. To
learn more, go to our Home Visitor
Training web site.
