The Jackson-Monroe-Vernon County Leadership Program is designed to help meet the local demand for community leaders. We are driven to create opportunities for participants to increase their knowledge, skills and confidence, develop insight and become involved leaders in their communities.
Would you like to learn more about the issues and resources in your community? Are you interested in expanding your personal network? Would you like to learn and practice skills that contribute to improved leadership?
If so, the Jackson-Monroe-Vernon County Leadership Program is a great opportunity for you. This program provides an educational forum where individuals can develop leadership skills and deepen their understanding of community issues. Each session will challenge participants to increase their knowledge and become actively involved in their communities.
Participants will be engaged in learning through 8 full-day sessions and 1 retreat scheduled once a month from September to May. The curriculum for the program is designed to incorporate leadership skill training and discussions within the study of local issues.
The program is developed and organized by a local steering committee comprised of representatives from UW-Extension, Western Technical College, and graduates of statewide and local leadership programs. The first programming year ended in May 2007 with the graduation of 12 participants. In May 2008, we graduated 9 participants. The steering committee is working hard to build on the successes of the past programs and design an effective program for 2008-2009.
Tracy Madvig, a past participant from Black River Falls, commented that, “I’ve gained a more solid base of knowledge and understanding of our communities’, counties’, and state’s history and current issues. I feel more empowered to act or speak as I see an opportunity to affect change and become actively involved in my community.”
This program is one of over two dozen community-based leadership programs across the State of Wisconsin as it expands the base of skilled and informed leaders prepared to respond to the ever-changing needs of our communities. Community-based leadership programs benefit not only the individuals involved, but also their communities and employers as an increased pool of talented leaders share their skills at work and in community life.
Participation is open to anyone living or working in Jackson, Monroe, or Vernon County.
The cost of the program is $300, which can be provided by the participant or a sponsoring business or organization. Some scholarship opportunities are available.
