As They Grow news. . .
As They Grow news sheets focus on early learning topics and activities for families with preschool children. Copies are distributed through child care programs in Racine County, and partner organizations including the public libraries in Burlington, Racine, Rochester, Union Grove, and Waterford, as well as, the three Racine County health departments.
Each newsletter includes a variety of topics and is saved as a PDF file.
2008 New Format!
- January/February - Healthy Eating Topics: Managing family meals, tips to help families eat right and food messages and TV
- March/April - Child Development Topics: Misbehaving or missing sleep and temper tantrums; Recipe: Pocket Fruit Pies
- May/June - School Readiness Topics: positive motivation and helping young children to learn; Recipe: Banana Peanut Butter Cookies
2007
- January/February - Topics: Self-dressing, immuniczations, flu shots, fever, colds, etc., fast food control, and portion size
- March/April - Topics: Brain development, rainy day fun, help children feel special, story time, managing money, and egg safety
- May/June - Topics: Fun exercises for children, playground equipment and clothing, summer activity safety, making mistakes, the overscheduled child, and positive eating behaviors
- July/August - Topics: Communication and young children, family fun activities, teaching politeness, fun with puppets, healthy eating strategies, and helping children be creative
- September/October - Topics: Memory book for children, sweet treats, Halloween safety, getting off to a good start, bedtime rituals and tips, and lead hazards
- November/December - Topics: Holiday time and chldren, holiday television programs, play and toys, making artificial snow, serving holiday foods, shopping with children, fun in the snow, and holiday sandwiches
2006
- January/February - Topics: Family meals, children's fears, toy switch-a-roo, joys of reading, temper tantrums, and play to learn
- March/April - Topics: Building trust in children, punishment vs. discipline, decision making in grocery stores, working with wood, and tips to help children eat right
- May/June - Topics: Communicating positively, positive discipline, balloon safety, reading with children, and snacking
- July/August - Topics: Family mealtimes, food safety, taste tesing with kids, traffic safety, Wisconsin's new child safety seat law, travel tips, and handwashing and family health
- September/October - Topics: First day of school, board games, build writing muscles, read it again, get to know your local library, and kindergarten readiness
- November/December - Topics: Family traditions, parenting tips, TV and furniture "tip-over" accidents, wahsing hands, motivating your child, and toys
