The 2009"Get Real!" program - a financial reality program for area high school students
was a huge success. Students from Richland Center, River Valley, Riverdale, Weston,
and Ithaca schools participated.
The goal of this program is for students to manage their income and expenses for a month.
Students choose a career and are given a life status (single, married, children, etc.). At the program students are given a simulated check book and credit card. They are to collect their "paycheck" and pay the payroll taxes. Then they go to stations to pay all the expenses for a month. Expenses include housing, vehicle, insurances, utilities, child care, pets, food, clothing, personal and household products, gasoline, donations, and entertainment. There is an SOS station for questions or if they need help.
