SMART
GROWTH - Legislation
Wisconsin’s 1999-2000 biennial budget contained legislation
designed to update the state’s antiquated planning statutes.
Guides counties, cities, villages, towns and regional planning
commissions in creating effective comprehensive plans and promoting
informed land use decisions.
Supported by a broad coalition that included League of Wisconsin
Municipalities, Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Wisconsin Realtors
Association, and others.
Beginning in 2010, all local land use decisions and actions
must be based on a comprehensive plan that includes the nine
elements outlined in the new law.

Planning or "Smart Growth" at the Wisconsin DOA Office
of Land Information web site.
