ABOUT THE WALWORTH COUNTY FAIR

General Information:
2008 Walworth County Fair Dates:  August 27-September 1

Theme:  Rock Around the Fair

Lifetime Membership:  $300

Season Pass:  $30

Junior Exhibitor Pass:  $8

The Junior Department of the Walworth County Fair provides many opportunities for 4-H members to exhibit their project work, to obtain valuable evaluation feedback from judges, and to receive premium money, ribbons, awards, and recognition for their project-related achievements. 4-H volunteers and UW-Extension educators coordinate and conduct many activities of the Fair's Junior Department. However, the Fair is not an educational program of UW-Extension. It is a separately funded and managed event under the direction of the Walworth County Agricultural Society.

Members work with their club's general leaders to enter the Fair. The 2008 Walworth County Fair Junior Department Premium Book is now available as a link from our home page and on the Fair's website. Hard copies of the book may be purchased for $5 from the Fair Office while supplies last.

Members should refer to the premium book when making their entries. There is a connection between the projects in which members are enrolled in 4-H and the exhibits they enter at the Fair. Members may only enter exhibits at the Fair in project areas for which they were properly enrolled at the UW-Extension Office by March 1 of this year. Other deadlines may apply for some exhibits (i.e. Steer identification and weigh-in date, horse project entry deadline, etc.).

Entry Information and Deadlines:
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE FAIR OFFICE BY THE GENERAL LEADERS. No individual entries submitted by families will be accepted. No late entries will be accepted. Check with your General Leader for deadline dates.

The signature of the General Leader on a member's entry form certifies that the member meets all 4-H program eligibility requirements. This includes meeting our 4-H meeting attendance requirements and project enrollment requirements. If you have questions about your status, please discuss them with your General Leader as soon as possible so that they cab be resolved.

Fair exhibits must meet requirements as listed in the Walworth County Fair Junior Department Premium Book. Members should watch for limitations on exhibit or poster size and the number of exhibits per department, for animal weigh-in and tagging dates, for fair check-in and judging dates, etc. Questions about the fair entries should be directed to your club general leaders, the project key leader, the UW-Extension Office, or the Fair office at 262-723-3228.

If you have questions about specific project requirements or fair entry requirements that your general leader cannot answer, please contact the Junior Fair Superintendent, Key Leader or Committee Chair, or Leader in Charge for help.

Other:

Participation in the Fair is not required for active 4-H membership and may not be possible in all project areas. The 4-H program encourages members to exhibit what they’ve learned, but this can be done at the Fair, at a 4-H club meeting, or at another event approved by your club general leader.
