Study materials are designed to be used as self-study as well,
for those who are unable to attend a training session. Purchase
your materials at the UW-Extension Office, familiarize yourself
with the information in the Private Pesticide Applicator Training
Manual, and call the Ag Secretary to make an appointment to
come in and take the exam. Please make arrangements for
an exam date at least a day or two ahead of time to ensure that
a room is available for your use.
The cost of certification is $30, payable to UW-Extension.
If you need to be certified in either greenhouse/nursery or fruit
crops, contact the Ag Secretary for information on obtaining that
training manual. Be sure to allow additional time to obtain
study materials if your certification will be in either of those
categories as you will need to order your book from Madison.
If you have questions regarding certification, contact the Ag
Secretary at (262) 741-4951 or by e-mail at cervenka@co.walworth.wi.us
Under Wisconsin's Pesticide
Law as amended, all private pesticide applicators applying restricted-use
pesticides must be certified prior to using any restricted-use
pesticide products. This
requirement applies whether or not the applicator is working under
the direct supervision of another certified applicator.
All persons using or directing the use of restricted-use pesticides
in the production of agricultural commodities on lands owned or
leased by themselves or their employers will be affected by this
requirement. Persons
most affected by this requirement include members of the farming,
nursery, canning, forestry and floral industries.
Certification can be accomplished by attending a training session
and completing an open book competency evaluation at the conclusion
of the session. Persons
unable to attend the session may complete a self-study program
and then complete the open book evaluation at the Walworth County
Extension Office. Upon
completion of the study program and exam, the Wisconsin Department
of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is responsible for
grading the evaluations, issuing the certification cards, and
maintaining certification records.
