What
is 4-H?
4-H is a fun, informal
youth centered educational program. Youth have fun by joining
and participating in hands-on learning in projects, activities
or special events. Youth are guided via adult interaction in their
areas of interest by the teaching of life skills.
The majority of the
Waukesha County 4-H membership is in community based 4-H clubs.
Clubs usually meet monthly to conduct business, have activities
and an educational program. Project meetings and family activities
are held outside of the monthly club general meeting.
Youth participate in
4-H by enrolling in project work which focuses on subjects such
as pet care, dogs, cats, drawing and painting, models, rockets,
gardening and clowning. There are over 80 projects youth can enroll
in.
Youth also participate
in activities which emphasize either individual or team experiences.
Examples include: drama, music, basketball, public speaking and
community service.
Youth are asked to maintain
a Record Book, or similar document, which reflects and serves
as the official record of their 4-H participation. This Record
Book provides supporting documentation as the member continues
in the 4-H program for awards, scholarships and trips.
