The Community Development Educators program in a number of priority areas. Backed by University of Wisconsin research, Community Development Educators work with local government, civic organizations, businesses and community leaders to enhance local decision-making and help communities respond to new challenges and opportunities. These priorities change as local needs change.

Going Solo - Building a Family Business

Neighborhood Revitalization works with residents to develop leadership skills, solve problems, and build healthy lives and communities. The neighborhoods work with local government organizations that are committed to improving the needs of the neighborhood. Other areas of development include home ownership, community development support, and affordable housing. Partnerships between residents, small business owners, and property owners are formed to bring resources into the communities.

UW-Extension of Waukesha County is currently focusing on three City of Waukesha neighborhoods that surround downtown Waukesha to build stronger communities and stronger neighborhoods.

• Haertel Field Neighborhood (Area around Central Middle School)
• Phoenix Heights Neighborhood (Area around Frame Park)
• West Side Neighborhood (Area around Waukesha Memorial Hospital)

AmeriCorps VISTA in the Neighborhoods

AmeriCorps VISTA members work with UW-Extension of Waukesha County to build stronger communities and neighborhoods. Two VISTAs are committed to these efforts for 2009-2010.
