RECORD BOOK AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
Waushara
County 4-H Member Record Book Awards
Waushara County 4-H
members are eligible for record book awards based on the goals
and accomplishments reported in their record books.
Clubs should establish a record book award committee to review
each member's record books according to the record book evaluation
sheet. Member record books should be reviewed by adult leaders
and parents. Cloverbud record books should be reviewed by club
leaders and parents and will not be reviewed on the county level.
Each Cloverbud will receive a recognition item at Achievement
Day.
Younger
members (grades 3-6 at the time of enrollment) may be nominated
for a record book award sponsored by the Waushara County Association
for Home and Community Education.
Older
members (grades 7 and up at the time enrollment) may be nominated
for four types of awards.
Project
awards recognize members for outstanding achievement
in a specific project. Each older member can be nominated for
awards in two projects. Clubs may wish to ask members to indicate
which two projects they would like to be nominated for awards
in.
Special
awards are designed to recognize members for
achievement in multiple projects and overall achievement or
leadership experiences. Each older member can be nominated for
up to two special awards.
Career
awards recognize members for their accomplishments
and contributions throughout
their 4-H career. These
awards (Robert Roggow Junior Leader Award and I Dare You Award)
are not included in any of the quotas for members.
A
club may nominate up to 1/3 of their membership for county awards.
Individuals nominated for county awards will be screened only
by leaders from other clubs at the county record book review.
Nomination does not constitute automatic award of a county level
award. If more than 1/3 of the members are deserving of nomination,
additional nominations will be reviewed. If less than 1/3 of the
members are deserving, clubs do not need to fill the 1/3 guideline.
The Community Service Award was created to recognize members who
make exemplary contributions toward community service. This award
is not included in the quota of awards per member.

Leadership - Nominees should show outstanding development and
work in the area of leadership during the current project year.
This is shown through project leadership, club officer roles and/or
committee work as shown on the A Citizenship/Community Service
@ record sheet and "4-H Permanent Record". Any youth in seventh
grade and up at the time of enrollment meeting these qualifications
should be nominated. Those selected to receive this award will
receive a leadership disk, a certificate, and a recognition item
that will assist in carrying out future leadership roles.
4-H Achievement Award - Nominees should be very involved in 4-H
throughout their 4-H career. In nominating members, consider their
involvement in all of these aspects throughout their 4-H career:
project work, involvement in club activities, and participation
in appropriate county activities. This award is given to members
who have completed grade 10 and up. They will receive an achievement
disk and a 4-H medallion.
Career
Awards
These two Career Awards
recognize a member for their achievements and contributions throughout
their
4-H career.
Robert Roggow Junior Leader Award - Bob Roggow, a Waushara County
4-H Alumni, established this award to recognize one youth annually
who has developed their leadership skills and been actively involved
in numerous roles at the club, county and other levels of 4-H.
The record book reviewers will review the quantity of leadership
roles involved in, the amount of growth experienced by the member
throughout their 4-H career and the variety of experiences. This
award is typically presented to a graduating member or a member
within one or two years of graduation. This award can be received
once during a 4-H member ' s career and is a plaque.
The "I Dare You Award," established by the American Youth Foundation,
recognizes two youth each year who have demonstrated qualities
of leadership, excellence in character and who have potential
for effective future leadership. The award includes a certificate
and book encouraging continued leadership development. The award
is designed to be given to a member in grades 9-11 and can only
be received once during their 4-H career.

Community
Service Award
This award for members
recognizes members who do make exemplary contributions to community
service as part of their club. It is for the individual who participates
actively in most, if not all, of the club's community service
projects. It is not necessarily the one who spearheads, or leader
such projects, although they may meet the qualifications below
and also be eligible. It is for the member who is an active contributor.
It is the member who stays and rakes leaves until it is done,
serves a dinner, and helps clean up, who comes every time to help
the elderly. It is the type of member that a leader can depend
on to show up, work hard and not leave until everything is done.
The award may be given every year that it is deserved and to as
many members as deserve it. It will be based on a leader recommendation
including several examples and the Community Service sheet in
the member's record book. It does not include non-4-H community
involvement. It is based on the individual's best effort and members
are not to be compared to one another.
