Cooperative Extension New Orleans Cultural Immersion Seminar Objectives:
- Develop a deeper understanding of myself through examining how all dimensions of my own human diversity, beliefs and experiences influence my thinking and decision-making.
- Recognize those different from myself and become more aware of all dimensions of human diversity throughout the institutions within my circle of influence. Acknowledge the similarities and differences that exist between and among people in the community, in political settings and in my office.
- Identify the relative positions of power and privilege and recognize strategies to remove them as barriers in accomplishing outreach goals in the community.
- Understand how a "disaster" economic and/or environmental impacts a community and look for opportunities to recover using different lenses.
- Learn more about the 1890 land-grant institution to broaden my understanding of their role in Extension education.
- Acquire insight in order to create new ways of leading the University of Wisconsin-Extension, Cooperative Extension system toward increased relevancy in a multicultural and changing society.
