Cooperative
Extension in the North
The mission of the University
of Wisconsin Extension is to extend the knowledge and resources
of the University of Wisconsin to people where they live and work.
The Northern District Extension staff and programs contribute
to fulfilling this mission through innovative programs and partnerships.
Our most significant partnership continues to be with our county
partners throughout Wisconsin .
UWEX has a rich history
of success in meeting the educational needs of a clientele. The
Northern District has the distinction of providing the state's
first county-based extension agent, EL Luther to Oneida County
in 1912. Yet the organization does not rely on that history to
bring future successes. The vision for the future of UWEX in the
Northern District is to provide base programming that is demanded
by our citizens while also engaging in new educational partnerships
that respond to changing clientele priorities.
Education in Extension's
four core program areas of Agriculture and Natural Resources Education,
Family Development, 4H Youth Development, and Community, Natural
Resources, and Economic Development are provided throughout the
District. In addition cooperative arrangements with UW-Superior
have brought television, media, economic, natural resource and
other expertise to assist with local programming. Finally, a network
of campus based specialists are available throughout the state
to help respond to critical issues.
We work in the thirteen
northern most counties of Wisconsin in partnership with county
government, as well as two tribal communities. A total of 80 extension
professionals are presently jointly employed with county or tribal
governments. Our staff is housed in 13 county government centers
or courthouses, two agricultural research stations, two tribal
facilities, UW-Superior Campus, the Northern District Administrative
Office, and in the Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center .
Visit our county websites
or our state website for more information on how we are providing
the University's educational resources to the people of Wisconsin
. This District website also provides updates and information
on programming and resources issues important to the Northern
District.

District Director
