KUDOS to WESTERN DISTRICT COLLEAGUES
- Chris Viau, Dunn County 4-H Youth Development Agent has been promoted to Assistant Professor effective November 1, 2008. Chris's educational programming through the past several years is well-deserving of this recognition.
- Congratulations to Chris Viau, Dunn County 4-H Youth Development Agent for
being awarded the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents Achievement in Service Award at the Galaxy Conference held in September 2008 in Indianapolis. This award is a testament to the exemplary educational programming faciliated by Chris.
- Chris Viau, Dunn County 4-H Youth Development Agent has been appointed by Dean Klemme to serve on a strategic planning team to explore how we create and disseminate educational resources and products, such as audio, video and print pieces. The team will be responsible for creating a shared vision, mission and operational philosophy of “publishing like” activities and products. They will identify areas for leveraging economies of scale, determine opportunities for collaboration and develop an implementation plan.
- Karl Green, LaCrosse County CRD Educator, has been promoted to Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Resource Development. Congratulations on this professional achievement!
- Congratulations to Jerry Clark, Chippewa County Crops and Soils Agent, on his promotion to Senior Lecturer! His promotion is effective July 1, 2008.
- Gail Peavey, Polk County Family Living Agent, has been selected to participate in the upcoming National Extension Leadership Development (NELD) program.
The purpose of NELD is to build leadership in Cooperative Extension at all levels and to provide current and future Extension leaders with the vision, courage and tools to lead in a changing world.
- Nancy Coffey, Eau Claire County WNEP Coordinator, has been selected as a member of the second class of The Leadership Academy. Over the next two years, Nancy will participate in 24 days of seminars and learning experiences to strengthen her knowledge of UW-Extension and build her leadership skills. Nancy was selected from applicants from throughout the state who are employed by all divisions of UW-Extension or at one of the 13 2-year Colleges.
- Spotlight on Nancy Coffey, Eau Claire County WNEP Coordinator. We are proud to announce that Nancy Coffey has been selected to receive the 2008 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Civic Engagement for her work in bringing together the community to reduce and prevent poverty in Eau Claire County! Nancy will be honored at the annual UW Colleges and UW-Extension awards banquet on September 18 in Madison. Nancy was nominated by Julie Keown-Bomar.
- Promotions! Bill Halfman, Monroe County Agriculture Agent and Andrew Dane, Barron-Chippewa CRD Educator have been promoted to Associate Professors with Tenure as of July 1, 2008. Congratulations on making this milestone in your careers!
- JC Penney Grants Awarded to Bob Matysik and Jenny Holm in LaCrosse County and Katy Forsythe in Eau Claire County. Grant awards support after-school programming in communities that are located within 25 miles of a JC Penney store. Bob and Jenny will receive $17,415 for 39 slots at Logan Middle School. Katy has been awarded $8,600 for 69 slots in the 4-H Food, Fun, and Fitness program. This is another excellent example of UW-Cooperative Extension leveraging additional funding to our county partners.
- UW Colleges/UW-Extension Program Innovation Grant awarded to Katy Forthsye and partners. Generation, Inc. is a five week entrepreneurship program held on the UW-Eau Claire campus. The pilot class will be held during spring 2009 with 30 high school students. Combining field trips, classroom instruction and hands-on activities, the program is designed to develop knowledge of entrepreneurship while building leadership, presentation, teamwork and communication skills. Partners include: Libby Thurston, UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education; Jim Mishefske, SBDC; Katy Forsyth, CES- Eau Claire County; Pat Dillon, Wisconsin Entrepreneurs Network; and six community partners.
