Farm and Risk Management (FARM) Team Description

The FARM Team consists of UW-Extension agents and specialists that provide research-based farm business management information and decision-making tools to farmers and agribusinesses. The team’s purpose is to help Wisconsin farmers improve business profitability and lifestyles through informed decision-making. Management topic areas include: strategic planning; financial management; business agreements; beginning farmer programs; dairy and grain price risk management; human resource management; farm succession and retirement planning.

Wisconsin Farm Human Resource Study

The University of Wisconsin - Extension Farm and Risk Management Team is conducting a study of Wisconsin farmers in an effort to better understand their current human resource practices and identify farmer’s needs as they relate to the topic.The majority of Wisconsin farms have at least some part-time help. Many farms have a number of full-time employees, and as farm size has increased in Wisconsin, more farms have begun hiring non-family employees.The results of this study will be used to guide future UW-Extension programming in the areas of human resource management.
