Accomplishments

2003



2007

  • Caregiving Relationships for People Who Care for Adults class leader trainings were held on February 15, February 22 and April 10 in three locations in Wisconsin with an additional 42 class leaders trained.
  • Elder Care and Work: Finding the Balance curriculum training was held on May 22 with 13 class leaders trained.
  • The Alliance will be distributing exhibit kits throughout the state of Wisconsin that can be utilized by conferences, health fairs, etc. in the areas.
  • The Powerful Tools Curriculum Task Force released a survey of all Powerful Tools class leaders in Wisconsin. Their replies are being used to plan a refresher course and sharing session/s for class leaders throughout the state.

2006

  • Powerful Tools for Caregivers training will be offered in Verona, Wisconsin, November 27-29th with an additional 17 class leaders trained.
  • Caregiving Relationships: For People Who Care for Adults class leader trainings were held on February 23, February 28 and March 3 in three locations with an additional 54 class leaders trained. A six-month follow-up evaluation will be distributed in November with results to be released in early 2007.
  • Elder Care and Work: Finding the Balance curriculum trainings were held in May and September with a total of 63 class leaders trained. The curriculum task force for this curriculum promoted National Family Caregiver month in November by distrubuting a news release for class leaders. Class leaders were encouraged to utilize the news release to promote the needs of family caregivers and the educational programs offered by the Alliance.
  • The Alliance's Board of Directors held its organizational meeting on Febrauary 3, 2006 and created three working committees including finance, curriculum and executive.
  • The Alliance's Board, in conjunction with a consultant, wrote a Strategic Plan for the Alliance that is being reviewed and refined on an ongoing basis.
  • The Alliance received a $25,000 grant from the MetLife Foundation in recognition of its work to assist Wisconsin caregivers.
  • The Alliance's web site was updated so it is more user friendly and contains additional family caregiving resources. It is designed so additional curriculums and resources from other organizations can be added.
  • Disseminated the "Listening Session" report to participants and posted it on the Alliance's website.
  • Secured funding from AARP, Southeastern Area Agency on Aging and Age Advantage Area Agency on Aging to continue funding project coordinator Linda Marty Schmitz and Alliance activities.

2005

  • Trained 16 leaders in November to teach Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregivers.
  • Four Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregivers master trainers were trained by Mather LifeWays so they could conduct the 2 1/2 day class leader training.
  • Trained 17 class leaders in the curriculum, Caregiving Relationships for People Who Care for Adults in Madison in March.
  • Twelve listening sessions were held throughout Wisconsin April-June, to learn from 168 professionals who work with family caregivers on how the Alliance can support them in their work.
  • 2nd Annual Caregiving Instititue was held on August 8 in Wisconsin Rapids at the Mead Inn. Over 75 individuals learned about outreach techniques for family caregivers and other family caregiving programs being offered throughout Wisconsin.
  • Alliance hired Linda Marty Schmitz as our project coordinator.
  • Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving classes were scheduled in 48 Wisconsin communities.
  • Caregiving Relationships: For People Who Care For Adults held a telephone update seminar for class leaders on January 18, with 17 indiviudals participating.
  • Six-month follow-up evaluations were conducted with class facilitators for the curriculums,Caregiving Relationships: For People Who Care for Adults and Caregiving Near Life's End.

2004

  • The Caregiving Institute was held in Wisconsin Dells with over 75 individuals participating.
  • A six-month follow-up evaluation was conducted for the 75 trained class leaders with 26 responding and sharing they have reached over 173 family members with the discussion guides and 471 the brochures.
  • Trainings were held for the Caregiving Relationships: For People Who Care for Adults curriculum in March with over 75 individuals participating. Web site established to support trained class leaders/facilitators including a list of where they are located in Wisconsin (http://www.uwex.edu/ces/flp/caregiving/education/relationships/findcaregivingclass.cfm).
  • Rallying Points certificate application was written and funded ($10,000) to pay Florida Suncoast to teach the curriculum, Caregiving Near Life's End, in Wisconsin. Steering committee appointed with Melanie Ramey, Hope of Wisconsin, providing leadership.
  • Caregiving Near Life's End master training was held in Stevens Point on August 3-6th for 37 individuals. A web site was developed by the Hope of Wisconsin to support the curriculum at: http://www.wisconsinhospice.org/caregivers.html
  • Helen Bader planning grant application submitted to expand Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving in Southeastern Wisconsin. Funding was denied, as the foundation would rather fund implementation of the plan. Milwaukee group has met three times and is developing a plan of action to submit to the potential funder.
  • Fifty Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving class leaders were trained in Verona (March), Manitowoc (March), Manitowoc (May), Stevens Point (June) and Waukesha (September).
  • Alliance core leadership group began a strategic planning process in June, 2004 outlining the organization's history, accomplishments, and concerns with an eye to the future.
  • Sixty-seven Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving six-week classes were registered for family caregivers in 2004.
  • A Blue Cross/Blue Shield planning grant was awarded to AARP on behalf of the Alliance in November to fund a strategic planning process and the necessary expenses to become a non-profit group.

2003

  • Legacy turned ownership of Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving to Mather LifeWays, Inc. and negotiations began regarding licensing of master trainers.

  • Steering committee formed to implement Caregiving Relationships: For People Who Care for Adults. Maurine Strickland, Bureau of Aging and Long Term Care Resources, provided leadership to this steering committee.
  • Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving class leaders were taught in Verona (February), Janesville (April), Iron River (April), Stevens Point (June), Eau Claire (July), and Brookfield (December).
  • Fifty-two Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving six-week class series were registered for family caregivers.

2002

  • Quarterly newsletter started to support Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving class leaders and promote Alliance activities.
  • Twenty-one individuals licensed by Legacy, Inc. (Oregon) to be master trainers for Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving. These individuals became the Alliance's steering committee.
  • Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving class leader training taught in Appleton (January), Manitowoc (February), Rhinelander (March), Brookfield (June), Eau Claire (July), Manitowoc (September) and Green Bay (September).
  • Thirty-three Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving six-week class series registered for family caregivers.

2001

  • Master training for Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving was held in Mosinee (May) with 40 individuals trained to be master trainers and/or class leaders. Individuals started teaching six-week curriculum locally to family caregivers.
  • Web site developed by UW-Extension to support Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving master trainers and class leaders. (http://www.uwex.edu/ces/flp/caregiving/)
  • Seven Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving six-week class series were registered for family caregivers.

2000

  • AARP and UW-Extension supported Kathy Miller, Gwen Daluge, Linda Dreyer, Sharon Heim, and Sheila Koca to attend the Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving Master Training in Portland, Oregon.
  • Core leadership group was formed to support the implementation of Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving throughout Wisconsin including Sharon Beall, D'Anna Bowman, Mary Brintnall-Peterson, Gwen Daluge, Linda Dreyer, Judith Durkee, Sharon Heim, Sheri Hicken, Barbara Lawrence, Kathy Miller, and Sheila Koca.
  • One Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving 6-week class series registered for family caregivers.
