Welcome New Faculty
Greetings and welcome to the Department of Family Development. As
an academic department, our primary concern is your professional
growth and development as an Extension Educator. We look forward
to working with you.
If this is your first visit to this page, I hope your new role is
becoming less confusing. As you probably realize, UW-Extension is
a complex organization. Our department offers you peer support as
you grow in your professional roles. One of your first Department
responsibilities is to select a Faculty Mentor team. Refer to the “Mentoring Guidelines”
- Appendix H. Let your District Vice-Chair know
whom you would like to serve on your mentor team and I will appoint
them.
Another orientation resource that you will want to look at is a
paper called Orientation/mentoring
Shared Leadership for Family Living Programs Faculty. Our Department,
in cooperation with Family Living Programs and The Wisconsin Affiliate
of the National Association for Home and Communtiy Sciences developed
this chart in April 2002. We want to help you understand the roles
the Department, Program Area and Association have in your orientation.
If you are beyond the first stage of orientations to our organization,
I hope you are realizing that the personal gifts you bring to your
career match well with UW-Extension, Cooperative Extension. As you
proceed in your professional growth, I hope you realize our departments
Peer Review is a faculty responsibility and a privilege. The Peer
Review Guidelines can be found as Appendix
B. Your mentor team or other peer reviewers are welcome to use
our department peer review forms.
I encourage you to become familiar with our Department
By-Laws, Appendices and procedures. They are an important resource
for your use. Remember, your future success as an Extension Educator
is important to us. If you have questions or concerns, please feel
free to contact me or your District Vice-Chair.
