Lesson III:
Financial Institutions and Services

Establishing an account relationship with a financial institution is a basic stepping-stone to financial security and achievement of financial goals. Many families, particularly those of low and moderate income, conduct their financial affairs without a banking relationship. In this lesson we will examine how the banking system works and explore why some individuals do not use financial institutions. What are the barriers to establishing a banking relationship? What are the alternatives? Are these alternatives meeting the needs of individuals? What may be our role as educators?
