Lesson V:
Housing

Housing is the single largest expenditure for most households. According to the 2001 Consumer Expenditure Survey, Midwest families spend 32% of their household income on housing. Many lower income households spend 50% or more of their income on housing. For homeowners the equity they have in their home is their largest investment. For these reasons understanding housing issues is critical for assisting families with resource management issues.

This lesson is divided into four parts. The first two parts focus on home ownership and issues related to home buying. The third part deals with renting housing. Sources of housing assistance are discussed in the final segment of the lesson.
