Part 1: Steps in the Home Buying Process

There are a number of web sites that offer information on the home buying process. Some are government sponsored, others are sponsored by real estate trade associations or secondary mortgage lenders, and still others are sponsored by mortgage insurance organizations. The sponsorship can affect what information is provided and what is emphasized.

Presenter: Kim Terry is an Extension Family Living Educator in Milwaukee who specializes in housing and resource management issues. She previously has worked as a housing counselor and as a loan officer. Since joining extension she managed a training program for home ownership counselors.

Activity: Look at two of more of the sites on the resources page or do your own search under “home buying”.

Answer the following questions:
1. Which site did you find most helpful and why?
2. For each site you visited how did the steps in the process differ?
3. For each site did it help make the home buying process seem easier or more complicated?
