as a grassroots initiative responding to a locally identified need
in response to an agency request

Mission/Purpose
Through collaboration, cooperation, and information sharing, the WCNC works to prevent hunger and food insecurity, provide information and education on nutrition issues and promotes policies that achieve food security while honoring the dignity of those we serve.

Description
Members interact primarily for the purpose of exchanging information and communication.

improving community capacity to address hunger/food insecurity
networking a variety of organizations/individuals working in the area of hunger prevention (* primary project)
networking emergency food providers in the county
organizing food drives to supply emergency food providers

promoting/coordinating food collection and distribution other than food drives (through Hunt for the Hungry, Plant a Row for the Hungry, gleaning projects, etc)

Funding
This coalition has funding for general operations.

This coalition has funding for specific operations.
CAC funds our garden gleaning and farmer's market projects and our huber project. CDBC small grant also used to fund garden gleaning and farmer's market projects. Roundy's Foundation grant funds garden gleaning and other community garden programs

This coalition has participated in planning and organizational (internal) development activities (such as strategic planning, creating a mission statement, training of members).

Evaluation
This group has not evaluated its functioning.
This group has evaluated its strategies/projects/activities.

Success Story
We completed a very successful Strategic planning process that has given us guidance. We have a number of on-going successful projects such as garden gleaning, and our food recovery project.
