Facts
- Food and Nutrition Service of the USDA funds the program nationally
- Any school can participate
- Offered in elementary, middle, and high schools
- Operates in rural, urban, and suburban environments
- All children can participate
- Students can qualify for free or reduced price meals, based on their
household income
Nutrition
- Must meet the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans
- Breakfasts provide ¼ of a child’s daily needs for calories
and a range of nutrients
- Breakfasts must have less than 30% of calories from fat and no more than
10% from saturated fat on average
