Wisconsin Resources
Adapting
GRAND to Include Local Resources
Starting the Adapting Process
Developing a county or community resource
list is not an easy task. It takes time and resources. To assist in developing
a county resource guide for grandparents and relatives, the Milwaukee County
GRAND Resource Guide was created so it could be easily adapted. To facilitate
adapting GRAND, we have developed questions to
help you think about your options and the editing process.
Adapting GRAND
The first section of each chapter contains
numerous questions with answers. The answers are not county specific so
are applicable to all Wisconsin counties. To access the question and answer
segment of each GRAND chapter, click on questions
and answers. They are available only as PDF documents and cannot
be modified.
The second section of each GRAND chapter
(local resources) needs to be edited as it lists local resources. The resource
section of each chapter is availabel in two template formats. Review each
template and determine which one will work best for your county situation.
The templates can be downloaded and are in MS Word. The templates are:
- Template one - Existing Milwaukee County
GRAND chapter sections. Edit by taking out the Milwaukee County-specific
information and resources not available in your county. As you edit the
resources, we suggest that the national and state resources be kept in
the guide because they provide valuable information to grandparents and
relatives. Click Template One for this option.
- Template two - Revised Milwaukee
County GRAND Resource lists. This template has deleted Milwaukee County-specific
information so your county-specific information can be inserted. It contains
national and state resources with a description of the resource. Many of
the statewide resources are located in Milwaukee. Some of the resources
in this template may need to be removed if they are not available in your
county. Also, review the various descriptions of organizations and agencies
to make sure they are correct for your county. If not, change them to better
reflect services provided in your community. Click Template Two for this option.
If these templates dont meet your county's
needs, feel free to develop resource lists that can be used with each chapter
or one resource list that can be used with every chapter.
- Besides localizing the resource
list for each chapter, the following need to be adapted:
Promoting GRAND
To help promote GRAND locally, a one-page
promotional flyer has been developed for distribution with newsletters,
at libraries, family resource centers, local aging offices, human services
offfices, UW-Extesnion offices and other public sites. To edit the promotional
flyer, click promotional flyer. To assist in
promoting the use of local resources, the GRAND Resource website will provide
contact information for counties who have adapted it. Inorder to post county
