Improving Women's Health and Fitness in Wisconsin: the Strong Women™ Program
Studies show that regular weight-bearing exercise helps middle-aged and older women by increasing
their strength, muscle mass and bone density, while reducing the risk of osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease and obesity. Yet only 7% of women in these age groups exercise daily. Family Living educators are providing more opportunities for Wisconsin women to increase their fitness by training new instructors for the Strong Women™ program--an exercise program based on extensive scientific research.

Wisconsin Bookworms™: Bringing the Joy of Reading to Young Children
Many people can recall a special children's book that sparked a lifelong interest in reading and learning. Yet children from families with limited incomes may not have the opportunity to own many books.
The Wisconsin Association for Home and Community Education (WAHCE), Family Living Programs, and Wisconsin Public Television cooperated to bring the Wisconsin Bookworms™ program to more than 45 counties and nearly 6,000 children in 2009. By providing free books, reading to low-income children and encouraging parents to do related activities at home, WAHCE and its partners promote literacy and help to bring the joy of reading to a new generation.
