Serve as resource and provide support for county colleagues for educational efforts and relationship building especially related to developing and implementing nutrition education and school breakfast within school settings/environments and youth serving organizations.

Previous Professional Experience

Amy joined UW-Extension in January 2012.  She previously worked at the Department of Health Services in Wisconsin as the nutrition coordinator for the Communities Putting Prevention to Work project.  Amy provided training and technical assistance to Wood and La Crosse Counties to help them implement comprehensive obesity prevention strategies that focused on policy, system, and environmental changes in multiple settings.  Additionally, she has worked as a research assistant with the University of Wisconsin-School of Medicine focused on vitamin D and its relation to bone health in post-menopausal women and worked as the director of nutrition and consumer information for the Minnesota Beef Council, providing consumers, health professionals, and food service professionals direct education and developing tools and resources for healthy eating.

Highlights of Current Assignments

  • Provide resources and best-practice guidance for colleagues working to develop school-based relationships in their communities and implement nutrition education and school breakfast initiatives.
  • Review and prepare relevant educational materials, including teaching and training resources.
  • Participate in state coalitions and partnerships addressing nutrition education, childhood obesity, and school breakfast.
