Highlights of Current Assignments and Programs
- Family Impact Seminars. Since 1993, Prof. Bogenschneider has directed the
Wisconsin Family Impact Seminars. The Seminars aim to increase respect for and
use of research in policy decisions and to encourage policymakers to examine
policy decisions through a family impact lens.
- Policy Institute for Family Impact Seminars. Since 1999, Karen has directed
this Institute, which aims to strengthen family policy by connecting state
policymakers with research knowledge and researchers with policy knowledge. The
Institute provides nonpartisan, solution-oriented research and a family impact
perspective on issues being debated in state legislatures. The Institute
provides training/technical assistance to and facilitates dialogue among
professionals conducting Family Impact Seminars in 26 sites across the country.
The institute also assumed the mission of the Family Impact Seminars established
in 1976 to build capacity for family-focused policymaking.
- Dr. Bogenschneider's latest book, co-authored with Thomas Corbett, Evidence-Based Policymakers: Insights from Policy-Minded Researchers and
Research-Minded Policymakers, was released in April, 2010. Her book,
Family Policy Matters: How Policymaking Affects Families and What Professionals
Can Do, is in its second edition.
- Dr. Bogenschneider and collaborator Tom Corbett recently published the
invited family policy decade review in the Journal of Marriage and Family.
