Education
- Bachelor's degree in English and Education from Lake Forest College.
- Master's Degree in Education with a concentration in Montessori Education
from Xavier University
Previous Professional Experience
- Pence joined Cooperative Extension in 2004 after serving as a consulting
trainer for Family Living Programs for five years. She began her career as
founder, director and teacher at Children’s Community School, a Montessori
preschool. Home visits were part of the school’s approach to parent
involvement. In 1993 she began working at Verona Area School District under a
low-income, learning assistance grant conducting outreach through home visits
with hard-to-reach families. During that time she became a certified national
trainer for Parents as Teachers. Pence has also helped to establish and provide
training and technical assistance to family literacy programs for the Bureau of
Indian Education and WI Department of Public Instruction.
Highlights of Current Assignments and Programs Family Living Programs
- Planning training and technical assistance for Family Foundations: 10
programs providing Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (POCAN) in locations
throughout Wisconsin.
- Planning training and technical assistance for Empowering Families Milwaukee
home visiting programs through UWEX Milwaukee County and Milwaukee Health
Department.
- Serving on the Poverty and Food Insecurity Team to create curriculum for
poverty education.
