Activities:
v Develop and describe uniform reference method techniques.
v Standardize Relative Feed Value throughout US.
v Develop code of ethics for all labs.
v Recommend proper sampling procedures.
v Research new improved methods of calibration.
v
Guidelines for Optimizing Accuracy
and Consistency in the NIRSC Laboratory
Accomplishments:
Ø Upgrading of instrumentation and software.
Ø Replace leaking check cells and adding forage check cells.
Ø Improved operator skills in areas of instrument maintenance, diagnostics, routine
analysis.
Ø Instrument monitoring program.
Ø Continued monitoring and updating of hay, haylage and corn silage calibration equations.
Ø Uniform instrument spectra output to obtain uniform test results between labs.
Ø Evaluate lab reference method precision and accuracy. Quality control and using recommended analytical procedures will produce lower variation between laboratories to give more uniform test results. Consortium labs are more accurate than average of NFTA certified labs.

Ø Establishment of By-pass Protein calibration equation of roasted soybeans.
Ø Develop In Vitro digestible NDF calibration equations.
Ø Description of Current NIRS
Consortium Equations
Future:
ü Develop In Situ digestible dry matter calibration equations.
ü Continued cooperation with university research facilities and Consortium member laboratories to develop calibrations from new test procedures and calibrations for new products.
