Commercial Alfalfa Variety Evaluation Program

From:

Dan Undersander and Kevin Silveira

Subject:

Commercial Alfalfa Seed Distribution

Many states are accepting commercial alfalfa seed for variety trials only from a commercial source as recommended by the North American Alfalfa Improvement Conference and the Industry Committee of the Central Alfalfa Improvement Conference.   My program will be collecting and distributing commercial alfalfa seed again to university testing programs to facilitate this process. If you wish to enter a commercial variety or varieties in university tests, fill out a Commercial Seed Distribution form (see attached) or download here:

(in PDF format at http://www.uwex.edu/ces/forage/news/distribution.pdf) or

(in WORD format at http://www.uwex.edu/ces/forage/news/distribution.doc)

for each variety and e-mail or mail to us by February 13.  We will distribute the seed to university testing programs based on your requests to do so.

I will need a voucher acceptable to a Seed Dealer that is located near the Madison, WI area so I can pick up the bag of seed.  If there is no Seed Dealer nearby then we will accept UPS shipments of the seed provided that it is a 50 pound commercial bag with tag information indicating  Variety name, Lot number, Purity, Germination Test, and Date of Test.

A $260.00 fee for each entry is required for us to distribute the seed.  Please make checks payable to  "University of Wisconsin Forage Program@.

There is an alternative for those who will be entering the same commercial varieties this season as they did last season.  A sufficient amount of this one-year old seed was properly stored for re-distribution this coming year.  The fee for this seed to be distributed is $160.00 for each entry.  Checks are still made out to  "University of Wisconsin Forage Program@.  If you plan on re-entering, we must be notified by January 31 in order to run a germination test on the re-entered seed. Look on the back side of this memo for a listing of these varieties or click here:
