Re:         Solicitation for the Wisconsin Forage Grass Entries

 

This letter is a solicitation for entries for the Forage Grass Trials.  This will be a Spring seeding. There will be three trials as described below:

 

1) Variety Trial

Location:              Agricultural Research Station, Arlington, Wisconsin

Management:     Hay Production, three to four harvests per year

Data Collected:   Forage yield and persistence

Duration:             3 harvest years or less if a variety does not persist until the end of the trial

Fee:                      $600 per entry

 

2) Grazing Trial

Location:              Agricultural Research Station, Lancaster, Wisconsin

Management:     Rotational grazing by beef cows, five or six rotations per year

Data Collected: Potential yield, palatability and persistence

Duration:             3 years or less if a variety does not persist until the end of the trial

Fee:                      $600 per entry

 

3) Annual Ryegrass Trial

Location:              Agricultural Research Station, Spooner, Wisconsin

Data Collected:   Forage yield, persistence throughout the seeding year and at the beginning of the 2nd year

Duration:             1 year

Fee:                      $250 per entry

 

Both commercially released varieties and experimental varieties will be accepted for each trial. 

 

Entries, seed and checks should be submitted directly to Dept. of Agronomy, 1575 Linden Drive, Madison, WI  53706-1514 (tel.: 608-262-6203, fax: 608-262-5217, e-mail: kgsilvei@wisc.edu).  Entries should include a completed application form (Adobe PDF format or WORD format) , the required amount of seed, and a check for the total amount.

All checks should be written in U.S. Dollars and drawn on an American bank.
