Academic Staff Title Prefix Review

BEGINNING RIGHT NOW
Start to familiarize yourself with the Title Prefix Review Process.  The prefix design is intended to offer one method of career progression to enable academic staff to progress through a structure of successively higher levels of required proficiency within a title series.  Prefix levels within a title series reflect progressively greater required experience, professional expertise and knowledge applied to duties and responsibilities expected of the position.  The Title Prefix Review Policies and Procedures for Academic Staff tri-fold brochure (along with the referenced UPG #15 and UPG #18) can help you understand the process in general and also may answer some questions you may have about the process.  Even if you are not yet eligible to apply for a title prefix review right now, you can begin to work toward making sure that you are fulfilling the necessary requirements for title prefix review so that, when you are eligible, you will have met the criteria and accumulated examples of how your work shows strong evidence of having met that criteria for promotion.

AT THE TIME OF YOUR ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW
In preparing for your annual review, please consider whether or not you are eligible and intend to apply for an Academic Staff Title Prefix Review in the upcoming budget year.  If so, complete the Letter of Intent Form and submit it to your supervisor and anyone else in Cooperative Extension who has budgetary responsibilities for your salary.  This document is intended to aid in budget preparation for the coming year.  (If you decide to apply for a Title Prefix Review but have not already submitted a Letter of Intent, please do so as soon as you decide to apply, so that those with salary budget responsibilities have as much notice as possible on the potential impact to their budget.)

WHEN YOU ARE READY TO PREPARE YOUR MATERIALS
When you are ready to start compiling your title prefix review materials, the first thing you need to determine is whether your official job title is a Category A or a Category B.  If your title is Lecturer, you are a Category B.  Almost all other titles are Category A.  (The only exceptions are the Program Manager and Faculty Associate titles.  Anyone in those titles should contact Mary Detra in Cooperative Extension Human Resources for unique instructions that apply to potential promotion within your job title.)

PRINT OR FILL AND PRINT FORMS
Identify the appropriate request form (Category A or B and promotion to either No Prefix or to Senior) and corresponding Reviewer Sign Off Form and Supervisor Feedback Form.  If you have the appropriate software, you can fill in the application form electronically and print, or simply print and complete by hand.  Either way is completely acceptable.

Category A: Professional Title Series

Note: Instructional Specialist titles are in Category A

Category B: Instructional Title Series
