ACDI/VOCA is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes broad-based economic growth and the development of civil society. Their volunteers are typically mid-career professionals with significant experience who provide the kind of expertise found in the world's most successful economy. More and more, volunteers are an integral component of long-term programming and complement macro-level initiatives. Many are part of teams or conduct repeat assignments.

This organization provides thousands of volunteer opportunity linkages and is a portal to many other sites as well. For a person interested in browsing numerous opportunities, this a must.

Alliances Abroad (http://www.alliancesabroad.com)
Alliance Abroad is a unique clearing house and sees themselves as leaders in the “affiliations in the immigration and the cultural exchange industry.” They list numerous opportunities for professional and volunteer opportunities and provide employers with a link to doing more.

Amerispan (http://www.amerispan.com)
Offers a variety of educational and travel programs including language programs, volunteer/Internship placements, Academic Study Abroad and Specialized Programs such as SALUD, an AMSA-endorsed medical Spanish program.

Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education (http://www.aiaee.org/)
The Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education (AIAEE) was established in 1984 to provide a professional association to network agricultural educators and Extension personnel who share the common goal of strengthening agricultural and Extension education programs and institutions worldwide.  The group sponsors scholarly research and an annual professional conference. 

The Citizens Network for Foreign Affairs (CNFA) (http://www.cnfa.com)
Describes the work of CNFA, a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to stimulating economic growth around the world by nurturing entrepreneurship, private enterprise, and market linkage, principally by focusing on rural development, empowering farmers and enterprises to add value and access markets. The Agribusiness Volunteer Program provides opportunities for U.S. farmers, agribusiness professionals, and other agriculturists to help build democracy and market economies by sharing their expertise with aspiring entrepreneurs across the globe.

Cross-Cultural Solutions (http://www.crossculturalsolutions.org)
This not-for-profit international volunteer organization operates volunteer programs in Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Peru, Russia, Tanzania, and Thailand. Clearly, they look for people to finance their own volunteer programs with a compelling rational for suggesting it. Their programs offer a unique opportunity for participants to work side-by-side with local people, on locally designed and driven projects. They are designed to facilitate hands-on service and cultural exchange in the aim of fostering cultural understanding.

This is Extension's national organization which has in turn a Global Relations Committee. The national Global Relations Committee maintains an active list of opportunities and organizations with opportunities for international work.

Geekcorps (http://www.geekcorps.org/)
A unique US-based, non-profit organization, places international technical volunteers in developing nations. We contribute to local IT projects while transferring the technical skills needed to keep projects moving after our volunteers have returned home.

Global Environmental Management Education Center (GEM) (http://www.uwsp.edu/cnr/GEM/critical.issues.htm)
UW-Stevens Point, is a center for curricula and outreach education services in natural resources and environmental management. GEM was established in 2000 and is affiliated with the UW-Steven Point College of Natural Resources.

This website provides information about participating as a volunteer participant or leader in some of the range of international programs through the national 4H Youth Development programs.

International Volunteer Program Association (http://www.volunteerinternational.org/)
This organization and its website offers the most comprehensive array of information on opportunities and programs. They are one of the few groups that offer advice to would be travelers on what to look for when signing on for volunteer opportunities.

Land of Lakes Cooperative (http://www.idd.landolakes.com/)
This website provides information on the volunteer and paid international outreach opportunities through Land of Lakes, the national, farmer-owned food and agricultural cooperative, with sales in all 50 states and more than 50 countries. It employs more than 6,500 people and operates more than 200 processing, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution facilities across the United States and has net sales exceeding $6.3 billion. They are committed to international development and have short and long term opportunities listed.

This website, as part of the Quaker religious organization lists numerous volunteer opportunities overseas. Some are entirely paid all the way to some that you must entirely for the experience. There is an excellent range of opportunities and resources offered here.

United Planet is an international non-profit public educational charity with 501(c)3 status, open to the citizens of every country on Earth. The mission of United Planet is to foster cross-cultural understanding and friendship, support communities in need, and promote social & economic prosperity among cultures in order to unite the world in a community beyond borders.

This is a new volunteer clearhouse sponsored by the President to encourage and facilitate more international development volunteer activities in third world countries. Their links provide program specific opportunities; most requiring you to finance the work or an organization.

Volunteers for Economic Growth Alliance (http://www.vegaalliance.us/)
VEGA (Volunteers for Economic Growth Alliance) is the world's largest consortium of economic growth volunteer organizations providing technical expertise in private, public and NGO sector development.

Winrock International (http://www.winrock.org/)
Provides information on the overseas volunteer work of Winrock International. They use innovative approaches in agriculture, environmental protection, renewable energy, leadership development, and policy to increase long-term productivity, equity, and responsible resource management. They seek qualified U.S. volunteers assist farmers, businesses, and organizations by sharing their knowledge and expertise.

Wisconsin-Nicaragua Partners (http://wnp.uwsp.edu)
UWEX staff have volunteered for and led numerous programs in conjunction with this international partnership. Wisconsin pairs up with Nicaragua in a network of programming and community partnerships. Volunteer trips, local volunteer activities, and linkages provide an excellent opportunity.
