Manitowoc County Hispanic Needs Assesment Activities

The Manitowoc County Latino population has grown rapidly with cencus data showing a 131% growth in the Hispanic and Latino populations in Manitowoc County from 1990 through 2000. The increase in numbers prompted Manitowoc County UW-Extension to assess its outreach efforts in order to identify and prioritize educational programs that would help Latino families successfully assimilate into their new communities. The following were resources used in this process.

UW-Extension Hispanic Needs Assesment Report

The Hispanic Educational Needs Assesment Project was an initiative funded by a University of Wisconsin-Extension cross-divisional grant in 2000-2001. The March 29, 2001 workshop, which is the topic of this report, was Part 1 of the project. The event was designed to combine the purpose of informing UW-Extension about the educational needs of Hispanics with building relationships between UW-Extension and community partners.

Waushara County Hispanic/Latino Needs Assessment

In the fall of 2003 in Waushara County UW-Extension office conducted a focus group study in hopes of identifying unmet needs or concerns of the settled Hispanic/Latino population in Waushara.   There are a number of existing studies from the Bureau of Migrant, Refugee, and Labor Services and UMOS that look at the migrant population.   This study focused on the permanent Hispanic/Latino population in Waushara County.

Wisconsin 5-County Latino Needs Assessment Project

UW-Extension offices in Dane, Dodge, Jefferson, Rock and Walworth counties participated in focus group research to better understand what is working, what barriers exist and what overall improvements would be most beneficial for Latinos.
