FAMILY LIFE AND RELATIONSHIPS

Five segments geared towards children of divorce ages 6-15. Focuses on how they can work with their new family situation to make their lives as good as they can be.  Segments include: 1 “What is divorce & how do parents feel and act?” – 2 “How divorce makes you feel”. – 3. “Being caught in the middle”. – 4. “What can you do”. – 5. “Conclusion”. Helps families of divorce learn the skills necessary to recognize how children are put in the middle, utilize good communication skills and help children lead happier, less stressful lives.  Five segments combined with guided discussions and activities help parents develop empathy for their children’s viewpoints and build skills for effectively communicating with their co-parent.  Segments include “Carrying Messages”, “Put Downs”, “Money Issues”, “Quizzing” and “Long Distance Parenting”. Satellite videoconference presented new ways of thinking about the family as a resource to enhance offender reentry and supervision and to increase public safety.  Identifies the strengths and resources inherent in the family as a fundamental support system for individuals upon their release from prison. A transformational education case study detailing a parent education and support program lead by Portage County UWEX that includes, child development, nutrition, parenting skills, coping strategies and school readiness.  Participants are also helped with goal-setting and provided resources and referrals. Updated version of University of IL research based program designed to help people balance their work and personal lives.  Designed to meet the needs of all working adults, it addresses the needs of working individuals systematically across multiple conceptual domains.  The flexible curriculum is organized into five categories/workshops, one to two hours each, which can be presented individually or in combination, and can be tailored to address specific audiences.  Topics explored include relationshiops with partners, extended family and friends, children (Parenting), work stress and physical and emotional well-being. 5 CD-ROMS with printable curriculum materials for Units 1-5, DVD with videos for Units 1-5.

Interactive 3/8/06 UWEX videoconference featuring a presentation by Ellen Bravo, UW-Milwaukee professor and former Executive Director of 9 to 5, the National Association of Working Women.  Both men and women feel the squeeze to balance their time at work with time at home.  As working people they shoulder multiple life responsibilities.  Bravo focuses on transforming the workplace to better support the sometimes conflicting needs of employees.  VHS VIDEO.

Video of a presentation given by Angela Wiley, Asst. Prof. Applied Family Studies at the University of Illinois on March 26, 2008.  Wiley asserts that in most families, mealtimes are the only time they have face-to-face contact.  She addresses concerns about changes in the American family mealtime in terms of social, nutritional and child development aspects.
