Committee Composition: The regional NELD advisory committee is comprised of members from four states in the North Central Region that participate in the NELD program. Past participants or those with leadership training are particularly encouraged to participate. Committee members are nominated for membership by their state directors. The advisory committee is staffed by NELD staff from the host state.

Length of service: Advisory Committee membership changes with each new NELD class.

Responsibilities: Advisory committee members are expected to do the following:

  • Provide overall advice on the approach and design of the regional NELD experience
  • Serve as a member of the planning committee for at least one seminar
  • Serve as a participant evaluator for at least one seminar
  • Participate in the program review and program improvement strategies

How work is accomplished: One face to face meeting will be held early in the NELD experience and well before the first seminar. Follow-up telephone conferencing and e-mail communications will also be expected. Two advisory committee members are expected to attend each seminar as participant evaluators and to assist with facilitation as needed.

I have served as the Director of the Panhandle Extension District since 1994. Our District has about 100,000 people and covers about 24,000 square miles (4 people/square mile). Our livestock producers are proud of the fact that we have about 14 times as many cattle as people. I am a graduate of the national NELD program (Class VIII) and have learned from international experiences in Norway, China and Mexico. As Extension professionals, we have a tremendous opportunity to facilitate productive change for our clientele. I wake up every morning, excited to be a part of a productive, visionary and accountable extension program.
