Only one weekend
separated my graduation with a B.S. in Home Economics Education
from Kansas State University in 1971 and my extension career. My
first position and one I held for ten years was as a County Extension
Home Economist in Elk County Kansas -- a rural county with an elderly
population. My responsibilities included the majority of the 4-H
program, county director responsibilities and all of the extension
home economics program, including advising the Extension Homemaker's
program. I took an 11-month sabbatical leave in 1979-80 and completed
my Master's degree in General Home Economics. In 1981 I assumed
the position of County Extension Agent in Geary County Kansas --
a very culturally diverse county located next to Ft. Riley army
installation. My responsibilities include the entire range of family
and consumer sciences serving a youth through adult audience; community
development; county coordinator (on a rotating basis); and a limited
amount of 4-H. My husband Gail and I have two young adult children.
