Sharon Klawitter's
first exposure to Extension work was as a long-time 4Her and Jr.
Leader in Dodge County, Wisconsin. She went on to cut her public
service and county government teeth as an adult services social
worker, also in Dodge County. Sharon moved into the world of adult
education, organization development and human resources via a Master's
degree in Continuing and Vocational Education from UW-Madison. Building
an effective customer service training and manager development function
for a large mid-western retail firm was the next order of business
for Sharon. Hired by Cooperative Extension in October 1998, Sharon
is currently providing divisional leadership to the recruitment,
selection and orientation of new faculty and staff as Coop's Personnel

I am currently
serving as the interim District Director for University of Wisconsin
Extension's Northern District. The District is a large, sparsely
populated rural district. Prior to assuming the Director role I
worked for eight years as the Community Resource Development Agent
for Burnett County, where my work focused on business and economic
development, tourism education, land use planning, and lake management.
Before Extension I worked overseas for seven years with the US Peace
Corps and Catholic Relief Services, all in Latin America. I have
a Masters Degree in Agriculture Economics from the University of
Kentucky. When not at work, I enjoy being with my wife, Peggy, and
our three children. I also like to bicycle, read, and camp.

| I
have been the crops and soils agent in Clark County for 6 years. Over
that time, my major program areas have developed to include: Forage
Management, Nutrient Management, and Home/Commercial Horticulture.
On-farm research projects in all three of these areas are evolving
as a great educational tool and a means of developing local ownership
of my educational programs. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening and
all outdoor activities. |
