YOUTH SWINE EDUCATION EVENTS ANNOUNCED

Madison - Youth involved in 4-H and FFA swine projects can learn about environmental issues involved pork production and gain expertise on raising and showing swine at Youth Swine Nights/Days 2000. The Wisconsin Pork Producers Wisconsin Pork Producers Association and University of Wisconsin-Extension will offer these workshops at several locations around the state.

These workshops will focus on selection, showmanship, and judging. The theme of this year's workshop will be Environmental Quality and Pork Production.

Workshops will be offered at Equity Sales Barn, Sparta, March 27, 7 p.m.; Fond du Lac County Fair grounds, Fond du Lac, March 6, 7 p.m.; Rock County Fairgrounds, Janesville, 7 p.m.; Arlington Swine Research Center, Feb. 21, 7 p.m.; University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Platteville, March 6, 7 p.m.; and Sherman Center, Tri-County Pork Producers, April 1, 7 p.m.

During the workshops, youth will learn basics about raising pigs, showmanship, and what judges look for in the show ring. They also will learn about pork production and the Environmental Assurance program.
