Cathy TechtmannCathy Techtmann -- Department Head

Cathy holds the rank of Professor, Department of Community Resource Development, University of Wisconsin-Extension. Since 1998, she has provided administrative leadership to establish a new “experimental” Extension Office at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center.  She has provided leadership in creating freshwater estuary, leadership development, and sustainability education programs for both local audiences and regional visitors, including innovative on-the-water “ed-ventures” using a 34-foot voyager canoe and kayaks.  Her work has contributed to the initiative to establish a Lake Superior Freshwater Estuary Center (LS-FEC) to further estuary research, education, and outreach. Cathy is currently serving as Coordinator for the LS-FEC Public Involvement Team which could include designation of a National Estuarine Research Reverse on Wisconsin’s Lake Superior shore.

Cathy received her Masters of Science Degree- Natural Resource Management, Environmental Interpretation Emphasis and a Secondary Teaching Certification in Biology. She has experience in community economic development, public involvement, marketing, and tourism development.  She is a graduate of Leadership Wisconsin (formerly Wisconsin Rural Leadership Program) and served as the Iron County UW-Extension Community Natural Resource Economic Development Agent from 1983-1998.
