LEARNING WORKSHOP - Facilitating Adult Learning – One-Day Face-to-Face Workshop

Limited to 25 participants

Audience:

Cooperative Extension faculty and staff and other interested parties

Level:

Introductory

Prerequisites:

At least one year's experience with Cooperative Extension

Time Commitment:

1.5 hours prior to workshop for advance readings, personal reflection and goal-setting;
One-day face-to-face commitment the day of the workshop

Description:

To be an effective extension educator, it's critically important that our focus begins with adult learners. What do we know about them? How can we better facilitate their learning?

In this one-day face-to-face workshop, and in the time leading up to the workshop, participants will actively engage in:

  • Clarifying beliefs and values about themselves as adult learners and educators
  • Understanding adult learners and adult learning
  • Recognizing different ways in which learning occurs
  • Examining strategies for facilitating more meaningful learning

Advance Preparation for the session:

Participants will be asked to:

  • Read three articles prior to the workshop
  • Complete a personal learning preferences inventory
  • Reflect on their beliefs as adult learners, adult educators and their personal learning goals for the seminar

Continuing Education Units:

.6 CEUs

Travel and Program Costs:

Cooperative Extension, Program Development and Evaluation Unit will cover program costs (instructional materials, resource persons, and instructional facilities - room and equipment).  Participants are responsible for their own travel, lodging and incidental meals.  While there are no program charges for this program for UW-Extension faculty and staff, the estimated value this session is $100.00 per participant.  (See cancellation process.) Other attendees will be charged for meals, materials, etc.

Registration Process:

Advance registration is required for all professional workshops and courses presented by Program Development and Evaluation. Be sure to meet the registration deadlines noted in each course listing. There is no charge for these workshops for UW-Extension faculty and staff. Other attendees should contact pderegistration@uwex.edu for specific information.
