Copyright permission
Using copyrighted material
in a publication
Before submitting
a manuscript to Cooperative Extension Publishing, authors are responsible
for obtaining copyright permission for the use of any elements originally
created or published by someone else (sample
permissions request letter). If you hired someone not employed
by the UW-Extension Cooperative Extension to work on your publication
(for example, a freelance writer or photographer), the Publishing Unit
also needs a copy of the signed work-for-hire agreement (sample
agreement forms).
Authors should have
a general understanding of what needs permission.
A good source of information is the Cooperative
Extension copyright policy.
If
you receive a request to use copyrighted material

- How the
material will be used--title of publication in which the material
will appear, for what purpose, who is the audience
- When
and how often the material will be printed--approximate printing
date and whether they plan to reprint the material
- Distribution--where,
how (print, electronic, or both), how many copies, and estimated
