Walk One Hour in My Shoes |
The Latino/Hispanic population continues to grow, yet many professionals
struggle to effectively service this growing population You may have
addressed the language barrier with Latino families, but do you still
struggle with the cultural differences? Waukesha County University
of Wisconsin Extension had developed a workshop; Walk One Hour
in My Shoes which translates in Spanish to "Camina Una Hora
en Mis Zapatos" that
may be of interest to you.
Cultural competency is more than speaking the language and enjoying
the food; it is dependent on understanding cultural differences within
the Latino community. The curriculum will focus on building and understanding
the diverse Latino/Hispanic population, including new immigrants,
families who have been in the United States for generations and others
in between. Participants will gain a better understanding of Latino
culture and learn tools to assist them in working with this population. Walk
One Hour In My Shoes will teach you practical
skills you can apply to your workplace.
Goal of Workshop
Successful mastery of cultural competence is the goal of this workshop.
Cultural competency is more than speaking the language and enjoying
the food. It is dependent on understanding the cultural differences
within the Latino Community. The curriculum will focus on building
and understanding with the diverse Latino/Hispanic population, including
new immigrants, families who have been in the United States for generations,
and others in between. Participants of the workshop will gain a better
understanding of Latino culture and tools to assist them in working
with this population.
