Project Synopsis
Regulation and education are both important components of a successful water quality management program. As the demographic makeup of the United States shifts from agricultural to urban and suburban communities, agency staff in regulatory and educational roles are becoming less familiar with the day-to-day realities regulated farm operations face. USEPA staff in Region 5 identified a need to learn more about current agricultural production and asked the Regional Water Qulaity Leadership Team to help.
A training program held for for EPA Region 5 staff took them to a research farm, a private farm and a farmers cooperative, where they learned about crop production, pesticide use and marketing, and crop sales and transport.
